Hats for Twin Boys

My mom and I knit a pair of brown and gold hats from Vintage Worsted on vacation. It is a simple pattern I designed based off a generic prototype. Vintage is a wonderful, machine-washable yarn with lovely colors that is easy to knit. It makes a great gift knitting yarn because it's machine washable, so a non-knitter can care for it easily.

Materials:
Vintage Worsted (217 yards/skein) 1 skein or other worsted weight yarn
circular or dpn US size 8

Note: One skein of Vintage Worsted can make two hats.

Cast on 70 stitches of circular needles. Place marker and join in round without twisting.
*Knit 1 round.
Purl 1 round.
Repeat from * 3 times

Knit in stockinette stitch (knitting all stitches, each round) for 3.5 inches.

Begin decreases:
*K8, K2tog, repeat from star across round.
Knit all stitches.
*K7, K2tog, repeat from star across round.
Knit all stitches.
*K6, K2tog, repeat from star across round.
Knit all stitches.
*K5, K2tog, repeat from star across round.
*K4, K2tog, repeat from star across round.
*K3, K2tog, repeat from star across round.
*K2, K2tog, repeat from star across round.
*K1, K2tog, repeat from star across round.
*K2tog, repeat from star across round.

Cut yarn, leaving a 10 inch tail, thread tail through remaining 7 stitches. Pull hole closed. Weave tails in.

Congratulations! You now have a toddler sized cap with a garter stitch brim. If you have any questions, leave a comment!

Happy Knitting!

Will this pattern make an adult-sized hat? It is so simple looking but a great look for a guy.

I like the looks of the pattern, BUT, printing out the instructions, I get 5 other pages which I do not need. Is there some other ways to just get the pattern without printing out the rest.

I am beginner knitter.

Anonymous - please need advice

How many do I cast on for an adult size hat?

when you want to print, click on file menu, click on page preview.
scroll down to see which pages you want. click print, indicate that you want only pages 1-2. then click ok.

this should help. as interesting as comments are, printing them is not usually helpful.

Hat looks great, but can you provide instructions for an adult size? The link to these instructions was for a man's hat.

How many stitches do I need to add for a man's hat?

I just made this hat to fit a medium sized woman's head. I made the following adjustments to the pattern:
Cast On 90 stitches
Knit in stockinette for 5 inches
Add row of knit after K5, K2tog
Add row of knit after K1, K2tog

You will be left with 10 stitches

Hope this helps!

Do you need a gauge & size for a man hat.

To make this an adult sized hat, inc cast on stitches to 80, and then decrease proportionally as the pattern is written. Most adult heads are 22" around, whereas children's heads measure 20"

Hi

I keep reading about how to print the pattern. There are 2 ways.

Firstly, select the information you want printed, then using control and press the P button, the printer panel should appear. From there, where it says print what (or similar like pages) locate the 'selected areas'. Thus will then only print what you have selected.

The second one is to print from the website as a PDF (you can also email as well).

Try visiting this webpage

http://www.printfriendly.com

It then gives you tge printed version and you can change size of images and text, I tend to reduce the image size to 25 percent. You can then remove anything that you don't wish to print. However, please remember to keep any copyright information.

Once you have information you need, click on the PDF and it will prepare the PDF file for you. You can then look at what you have and either keep what is shown or make adjustments as required.

I hope that information will help you for future use, bookmark the print friendly webpage so always there.

I find it very handy, once I hit accustomed to how it worked. Hopefully you will too.
